Just a middle-brow reader who loves a good story, recipe or how-to.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a fantastic YA sci-fi retelling of Cinderella. The basic characters, relationships, and plot points of Cinderella are represented for the most part - but with some wonderful additions, alterations, and twists. And these are enough that, as an adult reader, I was not constantly thinking "yep, this is Cinderella," though I did appreciate the 2 times the word "charming" was thrown in in relation to Prince Kai. I also enjoyed the (huge) nod to the Far East roots of the Cinderella story.
This is a novel that very much deserves its popularity among YA readers, and to be more widely read. I'm looking forward to the sequels and would definitely go see Cinder, the movie (please?).
